Locos Only: Free Beer Tasting #7

By: Grovetoberfest |
Monday, October 07, 2013

Loco is a word that although Spanish in origin, has entered the English lexicon and become part of popular culture. You would be hard pressed to find a person in the U.S. who did not fully understand the meaning of the word loco. It is used in everyday speech, in advertisements and even literature. It will soon join the ranks of other assimilated foreign word like lingerie, soufflé and kindergarten. And rightfully so. It's words like loco which give our language a little diversity...

Ok. Sorry. We misunderstood the writing assignment. This invitation is for Locals Only, not Locos Only. Let's start again.

Dear Autumn, I'm Fallin' For You: Free Beer Tasting #6

By: Grovetoberfest |
Tuesday, October 01, 2013

Autumn. It seems we have a love affair with this sometimes overlooked season. Winter has wonderlands, spring is in the air, and the summer of '69 can never be forgotten, but what about fall? Well, we are here to tell you that our number one season is fall, or autumn, for those who wish to personify this gentle and caring season. You see, autumn brings us fall beers, Halloween and Thanksgiving. It brings Miamians cooler temps; down in the 80's. And you know it gets down in Miami when women start wearing their boots - regardless of ambient temperature. We got to thinking -- if autumn were to be wooed, what would we say?

Big Bottle Bonanza: Free Beer Tasting #5

By: Grovetoberfest |
Friday, September 20, 2013

There are a lot of things that are not better when bigger. Debt, for example is really bad when bigger. A bigger hole in your boat is probably a bad thing. In every other case, bigger is better. Even the AT&T guy with the kids agrees. Beer, in big bottles, is not about cost savings or economy of scale. Beer, in big bottles, is typically cooler. Why? I don't know exactly; they just are. You can tell by the cooler labels, and sometimes, they even use corks. You don't have to be a beer expert to know corks are cool. Big bottles are cool beers. Trust us.

Dark Side of the Brew: Free Beer Tasting #4

By: Grovetoberfest |
Thursday, September 12, 2013

The dark side of the moon is mysterious. Much like the rationale of a woman, not even the world's best scientists have managed to truly decipher the secrets of the dark side. Luckily for all of us dark beers are much more logical and reasonable. See, dark beers are simple. Generally speaking dark beers are porters and stouts, but range into many styles like black IPA's, Belgian quad's, dark ales, dark brown ales and many more. It just goes to show you that beer too can be complicated yet inviting.. much like - well, you get the picture.

World of Which Craft: Free Beer Tasting #3

Geeks come in many shapes and sizes. Even within the whole of geekdom, there are levels to one's geekiness. And we're not talking about geeks like when we grew up. Geeks back in those days got beat up, endured perpetual wedgies, never got any action, and lost their lunch money on a regular basis. Today these geeks probably own the company you work for. Today's geeks are proud.

Paleo Aleos: Free Beer Tasting #2

Monday, August 12, 2013

Hipsters today are into all things PaleoPaleo DietPaleo Workout. Paleo Yoga. Paleo Romance. And since our creative team here at Grovetoberfest HQ is quick to jump on all things hip, they came up with Paleo Aleos - our Pale Ale tasting. See the theory behind the whole Paleo craze is that we should do all things like cavemen... ah, sorry - cavepeople. We should eat, drink, exercise as if we had no grocery stores, no cars, no iPads. So what the hell? Let's drink like cavepeople too.

Over here at Grovetoberfest HQ summer is quite a special time.  It’s the time of the year when we get to visit other festivals, try new beers, and most importantly, get ready for Grovetoberfest. Yes, we realize Grovetoberfest is in October and summer starts in May, but we have lots to do around here to get ready.  For example, we just polished up the Free Tasting Series schedule.  It’s not easy picking 7 deserving locations to host our free beer tastings.  We also have to come up with interesting themes and write-ups – well, like this one

Summer Lovin'

By: Tony Albelo |
Thursday, June 21, 2012

Many of us less fortunate people don’t get to take summer-long vacations where we meet naive tourists like Sandy.   We don’t get to frolic in the surf day after day singing show tunes.  For the majority of us summer just means extra humid days and hot summer nights. (Yes, that’s another Grease reference.) To think of it, the only bright spot is that school is out and traffic is just bearable. Oh wait; there is another sometimes overlooked bright spot: summer seasonals.  This is the time of the year where the breweries take to the lighter side of things and brew inspired beer to help combat this oppressive heat. So taste, enjoy and remember summer lovin’ happens fast so get your summer seasonal beer before your summer dreams are ripped at the seams.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

I get blamed sometimes for working our creative team too hard. For example, last week I did not let them eat lunch or go to the bathroom until they came up with a creative t-shirt design. I did let them drink water though. After 14 hours of hard work and countless revisions, they finally came up with a design I approved and hence “pour’n star” was born. They came through and only one of them wet their pants. A lot better than the last time we tried this stunt. Apparently our creative team has a limit of one good idea per week

Losing and Restoring My Man Card in One Night

By: Tony A. |
Thursday, August 18, 2011

My loving wife decides to surprise me with tickets to a play as a Valentine’s gift. Needless to say, this alone would not immediately revoke my man card, but it is close.  When I start thinking about it, “West Side Story” is not a play, but a musical. On the Ricky Martin sweetness scale, a musical is about a 9
